Subgenres In Cozy Mystery Is Crucial To Your Writing (& Your Readers)

Writing a cozy mystery requires we know which subgenre we want to write in.

I wasn’t sure of which subgenres I wanted to write in the beginning.

I dove deeper and researched the different types of cozy mystery subgenres.

To make things clear, here are the genres as seen on Amazon:

  • Culinary
  • Craft and hobbies
  • Animals

But that’s not all. These are only three and Amazon seemed to have divided cozy mystery further into these

  • Animal
  • Hobbies and craft
  • Culinary

Looking at the list above I knew what I’d like to write about but I still went ahead and researched more.

Turns out there are more than three cozy mystery sub-genres.

There are at present 17 subgenres of cozy mysteries. This article breaks it down well.

I’m sure all these sub-genres are exciting and I can’t wait to learn more about them.

For now, I have shortlisted a few of them that I like.

I can also explore more genres once I am done writing one or two books.

That would be a good start to my fiction writing journey.

Picking a genre is one part of the many pieces that have to be in place to write a cozy mystery.

But, this also applies to any type of fiction and non-fiction.

But it’s an important part to spend some time thinking about.

Moving on, the rest of the pieces will fall into place.

Did you know there were so many subgenres in cozy mysteries?
