Want to write cozy mystery? These books teach you how to write a cozy mystery story

Since I’ve not written any cozy mystery before I plan to get some help.

My action plan is to first read some books on the topic of how to write cozy mystery books.

I searched on Amazon and I came across several titles.

I am not going to read through every single one of them but the idea is to go through the ones that have shortlisted.

I shortlisted the books according to the following criteria:

  • Reviews: It has 4+ star reviews
  • Format: It is a structured book that gives a step-by-step roadmap
  • Credibility: The author has written cozy mystery novels or series

After going through the list, I’ve short listed the following books:

1. How to Write a Cozy Mystery: Step by Step: A Proven System to Create Reader-Favorite Copies by Natasha C. Sass (Check it out here)

2. Writing the Cozy Mystery: Expanded Second Edition by Nancy J Cohen (Check it out here)

3.How To Write A Cozy Mystery: The Ultimate Guide To Writing Modern Cozy Murder Mysteries by Nina Harrington (Check it out here)

Do I plan to read all of them first and then start writing?

No. I plan to write as I read.

Especially if the author’s suggest writing exercises. That is the best way to implement what I am learning.

It’s also a great way to make progress on my novel project.

I’ve to still decide if I want it to be a stand-alone novel or series. I’d like series.

But that brings up the question of continuity like which characters I’d like to stay through out the series.

Let’s keep this ball rolling.

More to come next time.

This is where it gets real.

Do you have any books that you can recommend?
